PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville women’s volleyball team used a balanced offensive attack and some solid defensive play to give head coach Daniel Cruz his first collegiate victory with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-15, 25-20) sweep of Purchase College in both teams’ 2010 season-opener on Thursday night at a steamy Purchase Pavilion.

Before a packed house, in a match against local rival and 2009 NCAA Qualifier Cabrini College, the Eagles delivered an efficient three set win. The decision came with many stunning moments, not the least of which was junior Courtney Reinhold’s 1000th kill. She became the 8th person in Eastern’s 20-year history to accomplish this feat.

ALLENTOWN -- The King's College women's volleyball team handed new head coach Alicia Orlowski her first victory with the program as the Lady Monarchs posted a season-opening 3-1 victory over host Cedar Crest College Wednesday night in Allentown.

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Looking to bring the Valiant women’s volleyball program back to its previous heights, Daniel Cruz has been named the new head women’s volleyball coach at Manhattanville College, Athletic Director Keith Levinthal announced on Tuesday.

ANNVILLE, Pa. - Junior Justin Lee of the football and track & field teams and junior Emily Hopkins of the volleyball team have been selected to leadership positions with the Lebanon Valley College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). Lee has been selected to represent the Middle Atlantic Conference on the national level, while Hopkins has been elected president of the conference's SAAC.

WILKES-BARRE – King’s College director of intercollegiate athletics and recreation Cheryl Ish has announced the hiring of Alicia Orlowski as the new head women’s volleyball coach at the college. Orlowski replaces long-time coach Bernie Kachinko who retired in November after 21 years at King’s where he concluded his career with a program record 403 victories.

The Middle Atlantic Conferences announces its annual sportsmanship teams for the fall 2009 conference sports. These teams include a player from each conference school who has demonstrated exceptional sportsmanship through their actions on and off the field during the season. The players are selected by the players and coaches from their respective schools.

WILKES-BARRE – King’s College veteran women’s volleyball coach Bernie Kachinko has announced he is retiring after 21 years at the helm of the Lady Monarch program. Kachinko said he is stepping down as King’s coach to spend more time with his wife Marina and three-year old son Lukas.

The 23rd ranked Eastern University volleyball team beat 24th ranked Haverford College 3-0 to advance to the NCAA Sweet 16 for the second straight year. The Eagles improve to 32-4 with the win over one of the teams that beat them earlier in the year. The Eagles will have another rematch opportunity tomorrow night when they take on top-ranked Juniata for a chance to advance to the Elite Eight.

It was not easy, but the Eastern University volleyball team advanced to the 2nd Round of the NCAA Tournament with a 3-1 win over Frostburg State. The Eagles hit .285 as a team and held the Bobcats to a .172 percentage to advance.

HUNTINGDON, Pa. - A first-set win had the Lebanon Valley College women's volleyball team feeling good about its second trip to the NCAA Championships, but a sudden change of momentum in the second set was too much for the Dutchmen to overcome as LVC was knocked out by Mount Union, 3-1 (25-17, 25-27, 23-25, 12-25) in the first round.

The MAC Office has released the volleyball All-Conference teams for 2009 as selected by conference coaches. On the Commonwealth side, Player of the Year honors goes to Lebanon Valley junior middle hitter Joelle Snyder.  Lindsay Palm of Elizabethtown earned Rookie of the Year honors and Lebanon Valley coach Wayne Perry won Coach of the Year. On the Freedom Side, sophomore setter Maria Horning was tabbed Player of the Year.  Justine McNulty of DeSales took home Rookie of the Year honors and Mark Birtwistle from Eastern earned the Coach of the Year award.
