Curry/4x800 Relay Shine at ECAC Championships
Medford, MA (March 7, 2009) – Sophomore Mike Curry (Kennett Square, PA/Salesianum) and the 4x800-meter relay team each broke school records as the DeSales University men’s and women’s track & field teams concluded their 2008-09 indoor season at the ECAC Championships on Saturday afternoon at Tufts University.
The men’s team finished 30th of 49 teams with 11 points, while the women’s team did not record a team score. Curry led the way finishing eighth and breaking the 3,000-meter school-record held by current DSU Hall of Famer, Jamie Hibell, with a time of 8:44.58. The record had stood since the 1996-97 season.
The 4x800 meter relay team also ran extremely well taking first place with a school-record time of 7:55.33. Members of the team included sophomore Brian Filanowski (Cumbola, PA/Marian Catholic), sophomore Paul Ecker (Lewes, DE/Cape Henlopen), junior Pat Hess (Harrisburg, PA/Bishop McDevitt), and freshman Brent Clauser (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville).
Junior Meghan Weber (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks East) was the top woman’s finisher taking 11th place in the weight throw with a toss of 48-07.50 feet.
