DeSales Men's CC Tops Division I Lafayette, Takes Second at Lehigh Valley Championships

Bethlehem, PA (September 4, 2009) – The DeSales University men’s cross country team had a terrific start to the 2009 season taking second place out of five teams, including a win over Division I Lafayette College at the Lehigh Valley Championships hosted by Lehigh University on Friday evening.

The Bulldogs finished with 86 points, just one point ahead of Lafayette College. No individual times were made available on the Lehigh University athletics web site as of Friday evening for the 6K course. Leading DeSales was junior Michael Curry (Kennett Square, PA/Salesianum) who finished in 11th place overall.

Sophomore Brent Clauser (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville) was next across in 16th place, junior Brian Filanowski (Cumbola, PA/Marian Catholic) was finished in 22nd place, and senior Justin Cuga (Newark, DE/Salesianum) was among the top five in 26th place. Rounding out the top five for DeSales was freshman Gerard Sclafani (Lincoln Park, NJ/Butler) in 29th place.

The Bulldogs will return to action in two weeks when they compete at the Dickinson College Invitational on Saturday, September 19th.
