Coach Marzka Named Nike NCAA DIII Coach of the Year

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Last week, Head Football Coach John Marzka brought even more recognition to the record setting Albright Football program by being named the John C. Whitehead/Nike NCAA Division III Coach of the Year, which was announced at the Nike Coach of the Year clinic. 

Since coming to Albright Coach Marzka has been the driving force behind a Lions program that has once again become one of the top programs in the nation. In every year he has been at the helm, Coach Marzka has guided the red and white to either an ECAC Bowl game or an NCAA Tournament appearance.

This past season, truly was a one-of-a-kind year for Coach Marzka and his staff, as they advanced to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA tournament. With the programs first ever 11 wins season, the Lions earned numerous conference, regional, and national honors, which included the ECAC Southeast Offensive Player of the Year, the Middle Atlantic Conference Offensive Player of the Year, and the D3Football.com East Region Offensive Player of the Year in Tanner Kelly.

Kelly was most recently named the ECAC Division III Player of the Year, for his stellar senior campaign. Also receiving national recognition for the Lions was Nate Romig who was named a D3Football.com All-American, and broke two program records.

At their annual banquet Coach Marzka not only unveiled the honorary plaque in which he received as the Coach of the Year, but he also handed out the team’s individual awards as well.
