Albright Softball Down Corsairs in Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, South Carolina – On the first day of their spring trip to Myrtle Beach, the Lady Lions (1-4) had a sensational afternoon defeating the Corsairs of the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth by the final score of 10-2 in five innings of play Sunday afternoon.

The win which was the first of the season for the red and white, also marked the first career coaching win for Albright head coach Amber Nichols. Nichols, who took over the program last season, led the Lady Lions to a dominant victory against UMass Dartmouth.

As a team, the Lady Lions totaled 10 hits and took advantage of three Corsair errors to earn the non-conference victory. Senior Kelli Zimmerman led her team with two hits in three at-bats and touched home plate a total of four times through the five inning contest.

Freshman Nikki Schwenk also had a solid afternoon totaling a pair of hits in her three visits to the plate as well as three RBI’s.

In the circle Allie Frank picked up the victory going on five innings and allowing just seven hits on the afternoon. The Malvern native struck out four batters and walked only two on her way to her first collegiate victory and her first complete game.

Softball returns to action tomorrow morning when they take on Baptist Bible College at 11:30 a.m. and Philadelphia Biblical University at 1:30 p.m.
