Braswell Named D3hoops.com Mid-Atlantic Region Player of the Year and to NABC Senior All-Star Game

Center Valley, PA (March 16, 2010) – In what is certain to be an off-season filled with honors for senior Darnell Braswell (Allentown, PA/William Allen), the first two came thru on Tuesday as Braswell was honored as the D3hoops.com Mid-Atlantic Region Player of the Year and on the First-Team as announced by the organization on its website and was also named as a participant in the first-ever NABC Senior All-Star Game to be played before the National Championship game in Salem, VA on Saturday morning.

Braswell followed up what was an outstanding junior season last year with an even better senior season this year as he repeated as the Freedom Conference Player of the Year and led the Bulldogs to their second straight Freedom Conference Championship and to the “Sweet 16” of the NCAA Tournament. DSU finished the year with a 24-6 overall record, falling to Final Four qualifier, Randolph-Macon College, this past Friday in the NCAA “Sweet 16”.

The All-Region honor is the second for Braswell after he also earned D3hoops.com First-Team honors last season. The final rosters for the first NABC Division III All-Star game were released Tuesday afternoon by the NABC on D3hoops.com. The game will take place just before the NCAA Division III National Championship game in Salem, VA on Saturday morning at 10:30 am and is scheduled to be live video broadcast by D3hoops.com. A link will be provided this Saturday morning on the DSU website for those who would like to watch Braswell play.

In accordance with NCAA rules, all players must be seniors or have exhausted their eligibility to play in the game. Two senior players will be added to each roster from the teams that are defeated in the National Semifinal games on Friday.

Braswell’ stats are an endless list of near perfection as he led the Bulldogs in scoring (20.9 PPG) and rebounding (8.4 RPG) and recorded a team-high 11 double-doubles on the year. He recorded career-highs in field goal shooting (46.0%) and free throw shooting (71.6%) this season and finished his career as the school-record holder for points in a game (41 vs. King’s College this season), points in a season (606, 2009-10), and points in a career (1,745).
