The National Academic Team Award recognizes those institutions that achieve a minimum GPA of 3.0 during the first semester of the 2009-10 academic year. Alvernia, Arcadia, Delaware Valley, Eastern, Lebanon Valley, Messiah, Misericordia and Widener all earned this award.
For the sixth straight season, the Alvernia University field hockey team has earned a National Academic Team Award from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA). The award is given annually to schools that earn a team grade point average above 3.0.
The 2009 list includes 100 Division III institutions including five from the Commonwealth Conference. Alvernia is one of 42 teams that have earned a 3.0 GPA in each of the last six seasons, and one of just two from the conference to achieve that level of consistency (Messiah College).
Alvernia finished the 2009 regular season fifth in the Commonwealth Conference and advanced to the ECAC South Region semifinal where it lost to Hartwick College.

The Team Award recognizes programs that achieved a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 during the first semester of the 2009-10 academic year. Individuals who have a 3.30 or higher cumulative GPA through the first semester are named to the National Academic Squad.
Delaware Valley posted a 10-10 overall record and qualified for the Freedom Conference playoffs with a 4-3 mark in league action. The Aggies took eventual conference champion Eastern University to overtime before falling in the semifinal contest.

The award goes to each team that maintains a combined GPA of 3.0 or higher through the fall semester. LVC is one of four Commonwealth Conference schools honored.
