MAC Field Hockey Players Earn Academic Honors

MAC field hockey players were named to the 2009 Gladiator by SGI / NFHCA Collegiate National Academic Squad.  The National Academic Squad recognizes those student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2009-10 academic year.

Ten players from the Alvernia University Field Hockey team earned recognition on the 2009 Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad for earning GPAs of 3.3 or higher through the first semester of the 2009-2010 academic year. 

Players named to the National Academic Squad include; Jessica Beisswanger (Weat Lawn, Pa./Wilson), Abby Eby (New Holland, PA/Garden Spot), Katy Eby (New Holland, PA/Garden Spot), Sarah George (Westchester, PA/WC Bayard Rustin), Samantha Landis (Watsontown, PA/Warrior Run), Miranda Peto (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville), Mia Puopolo (Forest Hill, Md./John Carrol), Tonya Rutt (Ephrata, PA/Ephrata), Erin Solley (Reading, Pa./Oley Valley) and Mary Vankirk (Temple, PA/Oley Valley).

The Crusaders posted an impressive 12-9, 3-4 Commonwealth record this season and were led by senior Janelle Lynch (Macungie, Pa./Brandywine) who led the team with 12 goals while also adding four assists. Landis also impressed, starting every game for the Crusaders and tallying seven goals and eight assists. The Crusaders finished their first season in the Commonwealth Conference in fifth place and advanced to the ECAC South Championships. They defeated the five seed Wesley College 4-0, before falling to eighth seeded Hartwick 4-0.

Six members of the Delaware Valley College field hockey team were recently named to the 2009 Gladiator by SGI/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III National Academic Squad.

The six Aggies honored were senior Bethany Pavlik (Lewes, DE/Sussex Technical), juniors Katy Provenzale (Andover, NJ/Newton) and Holly Rich (Wharton, NJ/Roxbury), sophomores Missy Milanese (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) and Erica Traynor (Bensalem, PA/Bensalem) and freshman Krystle Mazza (Hopatcong, NJ/Hopatcong).

Pavlik, an equine science and management major, was named the Freedom Conference Player of the Year as the three-time all-conference honoree had 13 goals and four assists for 40 points on the year. Provenzale, a marketing major, keyed an Aggie defense that notched five shutouts on the year. A secondary education major, Rich tallied eight goals and four assists for 20 points. Milanese, a sports management major, saw playing time in 18 contests and had one goal and one assist for three points. Traynor, a small animal science major, appeared on defense in three games. Mazza played in seven contests and the marketing major had one goal for two points.

Delaware Valley posted a 10-10 overall record and qualified for the Freedom Conference playoffs with a 4-3 mark in league action. The Aggies took eventual conference champion Eastern University to overtime before falling in the semifinal contest.

The Misericordia University field hockey team has earned academic honors from the National Field Hockey Coach’s Association.

The Cougars of head coach Robyn Fedor Stahovic were recognized for the second consecutive year as a Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA All Academic Team for earning an overall team GPA above 3.0.

In addition, MU’s Haley Ellis, Samantha Kilgour, Katie Kilmer, Jen Lozier, Elizabeth Murdock and Megan Stefanic were named to the Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Division III National Academic team for earning a minimum grade point average of 3.30 for the fall semester.
