SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The men's 4x100 relay and thrower Zach Bleiler both turned in ECAC-qualifying marks to lead Lebanon Valley at the Paul Kaiser Classic at Shippensburg University on Saturday.
No team scoring was kept at the meet.
After running 44.50 less than 24 hours earlier at the Penn Relays on Friday, the men's 4x100 relay of Justin Lee, Caleb Wiley, Wes Rockwell, and Josh Light found an extra half-second as they ran 43.97 to just get under the 44.00 ECAC-qualifying standard and place eighth overall.
Bleiler, who had previously qualified for ECACs in the shot put, added another ECAC mark in the hammer, throwing 49.24m (161-6) to set a personal best and place second. He also improved his personal best in the shot put with a sixth-place 14.63m (48-0) heave, more than a foot better than his previous outdoor best, and he threw a season-best 43.59m (143-0) to place third in the discus, coming within centimeters of the ECAC standard of 43.60m.
Megan Long came within three seconds of the program record in the 3,000-meters, finishing fifth in 10:33.36 in the second-fastest 3K in LVC history. Long finished more than 32 seconds quicker than her previous best in the event (11:05.66).
Sarah Fenning had a trio of top-10 finishes, jumping 10.87m (35-8) in the triple jump (a new personal best and just 3 1/4 inches off the school record) to place seventh. She also cleared a career-best 1.49m (4-10 1/2) in the high jump for ninth, and was ninth in the long jump at 4.77m (15-7 3/4).
Other top-10 highlights for the Dutchmen:
- Nick D'Angelo ran the first 3K in LVC men's history and turned in a solid fifth-place finish, crossing the line in 9:05.50. In the 10K, Patrick Tierney who came in fourth in 37:02.69.
- Josh Light finished fourth in a 62-man 100-meter field, qualifying third at 11.13 before running 11.11 in finals.
- Joe Meehan cleared 1.80m (5-10 3/4) to place sixth in the high jump, while Wiley turned in a 13.08m (42-11) triple jump to place eighth.
- Clint Surgeoner threw 54.40m (178-5) to place eighth in the javelin.
- In the 400-meter hurdles Meggy McLean ran 1:07.49, a personal best, to finish fourth.
- Ashley Weaver completed 2.90m (9-6 1/4) for ninth in the pole vault.
