Torre Sets School Record, Provisionally Qualifies for NCAAs in Javelin at Millersville Spring Opener

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. --- Mike Torre set a school record and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the javelin throw as Elizabethtown College participated in the Millersville University Spring Classic at Biemesderfer Stadium Saturday afternoon.

Torre threw 194 feet, 1 inch (59.17 meters) to win the event and shatter his own school record of 186 feet, 3 inches set at the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships in 2007. Torre's mark surpassed the NCAA Division III provisional standard of 189 feet, 7 inches and places him 11th on the national performance list pending other qualifiers from this weekend's action.

The Blue Jays also turned in strong performances in the 3,000 meters, placing four runners in the top eight with times that cracked the program's all-time Top 10 list. Colby Miller finished second with a time of 8:49.61 (3rd-best in school history), Aaron Focht was third overall in 8:51.09 (5th-best), Chris Heisey was timed in 8:54.61 to finish in sixth place (6th-best) and Charlie Larsen ran eighth with a time of 9:03.38 (7th-best).

In the 1,500 meters, Evan DeArmitt finished third with a time of 3:59.99 to move into ninth place on the program's all-time list. The 4x100-meter relay team of Brandon Walters, Wyatt Eaton, Mike Mauger and Pat Doughty finished fourth with a time of 43:37 seconds, and climbed into ninth place on the program's all-time list.

Making his debut on the program top 10 list was Austin Hayes in the javelin, who threw 148 feet, 8 inches to move into eighth place on the list.
