Walker Named Athlete of the Year On Final Day of MACs

CHESTER, Pa. - Johanna Walker won the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes to be named the MAC Track Athlete of the Year, and Josh Light captured the men's 100-meter title to lead Lebanon Valley on the final day of the 2010 MAC Outdoor Championships at Widener University.

The women stormed back from seventh place starting the day to finish fourth with 101 points, while the men finished sixth overall with 59.5 points.

Walker polished off an outstanding meet by winning gold in the 100 (12.79 seconds) and 200 (26.06) and adding a silver in the 4x100 relay (a school-record 49.70), while finishing fourth in the 100 hurdles (15.74). Her 100 and 200 times both slipped in under the ECAC qualifying standards.

Meanwhile, senior Josh Light finished his MAC career with a gold medal as he won the 100 by two-hundreths of a second over Widener's Robert Innocent, running 11.02.

LVC had two other medalists on the final day including double-medalist Megan Long, who came in second in a thrilling 1,500-meter finish in 4:45.59 and third in the 800 in 2:21.66, and Meggy McLean, who finished third in the 400 hurdles at 1:08.64.

The women's 4x100 relay ran the fastest time in school history as Allix Sanders, Katie Evison, McLean, and Walker were pipped in a photo-finish by Misericordia's relay in 49.70, taking more than a half-second off the group's previous best and almost a quarter-second off the school record of 49.94.

In other action for LVC on Saturday:

- Light added a fifth-place 22.70 in the 200 to his 100 win.
- Clint Surgeoner threw 179-9 for sixth in a loaded javelin field that saw three provisional NCAA marks among the medalists.
- Joe Meehan finished eighth in the long jump (20-8), with Erik Brandt right behind in ninth (20-1 3/4).
- Evison finished fourth in the 100 (13.22) and Sanders seventh (13.40) as the Dutchmen scored three and took 17 team points from the event. Evison also came in fifth in the 200 in 26.97.
- Alisha Farrell finished fifth in the 400-meter dash in a time of 1:01.25. She was also 13th in the long jump at 14-8.
- Miranda Klinger finished fifth in the 400 hurdles (1:10.61), while Kelsey Wallen got a point with an eighth-place finish in the 100 hurdles.
