Widener's Schaffer Once Again an All-American by Closing Fourth at the NCAA Championships

Widener sophomore Abby Schaffer (Easton, PA) notched her second All-America honor of the year by ending fourth in the pole vault at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Berea, OH.

Schaffer vaulted 12’ 6.75” to grab fourth on a judge’s decision. She fell just shy of Anna Heim from Moravian, who set the NCAA record by leaping 13’ 6.5.”

This concludes a solid year for Schaffer, who finished second in the country to Heim at the NCAA Indoor Championships by covering 12’ 7.75.” Schaffer becomes the fourth different female track & field athlete for Widener to win All-America honors in the both the winter and spring and the first since Lauren Lucci in 2008.

In the winter, Schaffer won the title at the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships and automatically qualified for nationals by capturing the ECAC title with a new meet record. This spring, she took the MAC crown by leaping 12’ 10” for a new meet and school record and was second at the ECAC Championships.
