WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Lycoming College freshman Jason Mifsud won his third-flight singles match to defeat Messiah College in the semifinals of the 2010 Commonwealth Conference Men’s Tennis tournament, 5-2 on Wednesday, May 5. Lycoming advances to the finals for the first time under head coach John Dorner.
Lycoming was down 2-1 at the end of the doubles completion, with the lone Warrior win coming at the second flight from brothers Robert and David Brown, sweeping the Falcon pair of Andrew Wismer and Kyle Keen, 8-0.
In singles action, the first and second flights were in the middle of their tiebreaker sets when Mifsud won Lycoming’s fifth match of the day to seal the win, defeating Wismer 7-5, 7-5. The Warriors (9-2) picked up wins in the fourth, fifth and sixth flights. David Brown won his fourth flight 6-3, 6-4 while Phillip Shannon won the fifth flight 6-3, 6-3. Cody Heffner dropped just three games in his sixth flight match up, 6-0, 6-3.
The Warriors head to top-seeded Elizabethtown College on Saturday, May 8. A time has not yet been set.
