WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Even though the 2009-10 Lycoming College women’s swim team featured a roster that included 10 freshmen, the team showed its maturity both in the pool, winning the school’s first Middle Atlantic Conference title since 1997, and in the classroom, as the team earned Collegiate Swimming Coaches Association of America Scholar All-American Team honors for the spring semester thanks to posting a 3.20 team GPA.

In addition, junior Stacy Flick (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) earned Honorable Mention CSCAA Scholar All-American honors for the second straight year. Meanwhile, for the women’s team, it was its seventh straight CSCAA honor during the spring semester.

“I am very proud that our women's team has again earned Scholar All-American team status,” Lycoming College head swimming coach Jerry Hammaker said. “Our women's record of achievements in the classroom outweigh even their conference championship in the pool. We continually stress that academics should be our swimmers’ top priority and that shows in our women's team GPA.”
The CSCAA selects and honors teams as Scholar All-American Teams twice a year, once after each semester (Fall/Winter and Spring). To earn CSCAA Scholar All-American team honors, a team must have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA for the semester. To earn recognition as an Individual CSCAA Scholar All-American, each swimmer must achieve a minimum GPA of 3.5 and be selected to participate in the NCAA, NAIA or JC Swimming and Diving Championships. Swimmers with an NCAA “B” time and a 3.5 GPA earn Honorable Mention status.

Flick, who carries a 3.72 GPA as a psychology/criminal justice major, had another successful season in the water for the Lady Warriors, earning All-MAC First Team honors in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard medley relay, 400-yard medley relay, 200- and 400-yard freestyle relays, playing a pivotal role in helping the Warriors win the MAC title. Her best performance of the meet came in the 100-yard breaststroke when she posted a pool record 1:07.02 to win her first MAC individual title, as she posted an NCAA provisional time to help her qualify for the Scholar All-American honors.

“Stacy Flick is an outstanding team leader across the full spectrum of the student-athlete concept,” Hammaker said. “She is a team captain, MAC champion and a true scholar. Stacy is a gem and a pleasure to coach. We congratulate her on her recognition as a Scholar All-American.”

Lycoming finished its 2010 season by winning the MAC title, the first under 10th-year head coach Hammaker. The team featured four All-MAC First Team swimmers and five All-MAC First Team relay teams, including MAC Swimmer of the Year Lindsay Hunsicker, who won four MAC individual titles en route to the award.
