Widener seniors Rachel Kyprianou (Shrewsbury, PA) and Caryinna Yenchak (Ashley, PA) recently participated in a photo shoot with the Philadelphia Union of Major League Soccer.

The shoot at PPL Park in Chester, in addition to Widener University’s involvement with the Union, will be published in a copy of Widener Magazine to be announced.

Widener along with the Union last spring agreed to a multi-year partnership. The school will become the official university of the Union, PPL Park and the Union’s youth soccer partner partners, EPYSA and DYSA. The multi-tiered partnership that includes signage, television and web advertising spots not only aims to promote the growth of youth soccer in Chester but also to increase awareness of Widener University and its undergraduate and graduate academic programs.

Kyprianou has been a solid three-year player of defense for the Pride. She helped the squad last season record five shutouts, close third in the league with a 1.29 goals-against average and open the season 10-1-1 for its best start after 12 games.

Yenchak last year ended sixth in the Commonwealth Conference with 23 points, tied for eighth with eight goals and fifth with seven assists. A tremendous four-year player at forward, she enters this season fourth in school history with 24 goals, tied for fourth with 19 assists and fifth with 67 points.

The Pride (13-4-3, 3-3-1 CC) last season notched double figures in victories a fifth straight year and were just two wins shy of matching the school record from 1995.

Widener opens the season September 1 at Immaculata, beginning at 4:00 pm.
