Widener has announced both its soccer teams will take part in a doubleheader on Friday, September 17 at PPL Park in Chester, home of the Philadelphia Union.
The women’s team hosts Wilkes at 6:00 pm, followed by the men’s contest against Neumann at 8:00 pm. Both games originally were scheduled for the next day.
Fans planning to attend the games will need a ticket, even though no admission will be charged. Information on obtaining tickets as well as parking will be announced.
The games serve as a tremendous opportunity for Widener, which this season entered a partnership as the official university of the Philadelphia Union, PPL Park and the Union’s youth soccer partner partners, EPYSA and DYSA. The multi-tiered partnership that includes signage, television and web advertising spots not only aims to promote the growth of youth soccer in Chester but also to increase awareness of Widener University and its undergraduate and graduate academic programs.
It will be the team’s first games at the new stadium that opened last spring. PPL Park features a picturesque view of the Commodore Barry Bridge as well as the Delaware River. An average of over 17,000 fans have seen the Union compete at the stadium this season.
