Commonwealth: No. 4 Messiah at No. 2 Alvernia; Freedom: No. 2 Misericordia at No. 1 Fairleigh Dickinson-Florham

ANNVILLE, Pa. (Field Hockey) – The 2014 Commonwealth Conference and Freedom Conference Tournament Championship Game matchups are not set for Saturday, Nov. 8. No. 2 Alvernia will host No. 4 Messiah in the Commonwealth Conference Final, while No. 1 Fairleigh Dickinson-Florham will host No. 2 Misericordia in the Freedom Conference Final.
Second-seeded Alvernia came from behind to defeat third-seeded Lebanon Valley, 2-1, on Wednesday. The Dutchmen scored first with a goal by Lauren Brumbach in the 24th minutes. But the Crusaders scored twice over a two-minute span to earn the 2-1 victory. Alvernia got its goals from Natalie Messaros and Paige Epler.
Alvernia will now host fourth-seeded Messiah in the Commonwealth Conference Final on Saturday at 2 p.m.
Messiah earned their spot in the conference final with a 3-0 win over top-seeded Arcadia. The Falcons took a 2-0 lead in the first half with goals by Taylor Holt and Carissa Gehman. Gehman then added a second goal late in the second half.
The Falcons defeats the Crusaders by a score of 3-2 in Reading on Oct. 4.
Top-seed Fairleigh Dickinson-Florham got the game’s only goal when Niki Ikeda scored her 11th goal of the season in the 41st minute. The Devils hung out to defeat fourth-seeded Wilkes. Fairleigh Dickinson-Florham will now host second-seeded Misericordia on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Misericordia was led by Jennifer O’Neill who scored the first three goals of the game to earn the hat trick in a 5-0 win over No. 3 DeSales. O’Neill’s goals came at the five-, six- and 37-minute marks. But O’Neill didn’t stop at three goals. The junior scored a fourth goal, the Cougars’ fifth of the game, in the 50th minute. Lindsay Hischak scored Misericorida’s fourth goal in the 44th minute, and also assisted on O’Neill’s second and third goals.
The Cougars defeated the Devils by a score of 3-1 back on Sept. 28.
