King’s Repeats as Freedom Men’s Soccer Champions in Double Overtime Thriller

ST. DAVIDS, Pa. (Men’s Soccer) –
The King’s Monarchs completed the comeback with a 2-1 double-overtime victory over the Eastern Eagles for their second-straight Freedom Conference Men’s Soccer Championship on Saturday.

Daniel Hernandez scored his sixth goal of the season on passes from Brian Fenster and Chris Nygren in the 104th minute to give King’s (15-5-1) its second-straight Freedom Conference title.

The game went to overtime after Nygren tied the game at 1-1 in the 63rd minute of play. Foster set up Nygren for his eight goal of the season.

Eastern (15-4) led for almost 40 minutes after Freedom Offensive Player of the Year Eric Giovagnoli scored his 15th goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 25th minute.

The Monarchs’ goalkeeper Tyler Wilson faced 18 shots and made three saves, while the Eagles’ Jamie Stratton faved 13 shots and made four saves.

Hernandez was named the Freedom Conference Championship Most Valuable Player.

King’s earns the Freedom Conference’s automatic qualifier (AQ) to the NCAA Division III Tournament. The field will be announced on Monday, Nov. 10 at 1:30 p.m. at www.NCAA.com.
