DALLAS, Pa. (Men’s Cross Country) – The Widener Pride claimed their third-straight Middle Atlantic Conference Men’s Cross Country Championship on Saturday at the Letterkenny Fields in Dallas. The Pride’s junior Ernie Pitone won the men’s race for the second-straight year.
Widener had six runners finish in the top-20 to earn All-MAC honors. The Pride scored 40 points with the individual champion, second and 10th-place finishers. Messiah finished runner-up with 46 points. The Falcons had six runners finish in the top-20, including the third-, seventh- and eighth-place finishers. DeSales finished in third with 82 points with two top-20 finishers.
Pitone won the 2015 race by 34 seconds over the second-overall finisher with a time of 25:34.93. The junior won the 2014 race by 12 seconds, and finished runner-up in 2012. Pitone collected his second-straight MAC Runner of the Year award to go with his 2013 MAC Rookie of the Year award. Widener’s junior Will McDermott finished in second place by a time of 26:08.18.
Messiah’s senior Jared Schatz took third place with a time of 26:25.66. DeSales’ freshman Gabe Lamm earn the 2015 MAC Rookie of the Year with his fourth-place finish and time of 26:35.43.
Widener head coach Vince Touey was named 2015 MAC Men’s Cross Country Coach of the Year.
