Eastern Captures Eighth Consecutive MAC Freedom Volleyball Championship

Since joining the MAC Freedom in 2008, the Eagles have won every conference tournament

ST. DAVIDS, Pa. (Volleyball) –
The top-seeded Eastern Eagles swept the second-seed DeSales Bulldogs, 3-0, for the fifth-straight year to claim their eighth-straight MAC Freedom Volleyball Championship. The Eagles have won every tournament title since joining the conference in 2008.
 
Eastern (28-7) won the three sets by scores of 25-13, 25-22 and 25-17. DeSales (22-11) led the majority of the second set and had a 20-17 lead before the Eagles were able to pull away for the second-set win.
 
Stephanie Elechko led the Eagles with 10 kills and 11 points, while adding two digs and a .222 hitting percentage. Elechko was named the MAC Freedom Championship Most Valuable Player.
 
MAC Freedom Player of the Year Rikki Schlager recorded 34 assists, five digs and one service ace. Alicia Weigel and Morgan Shemonski both finished with eight kills. Rylie Haas recorded 19 digs for the Eagles.
 
The Bulldogs were led by MAC Freedom Rookie of the Year Gabby Savitè who recorded 10 kills, 10 digs and 10 points. Lisa Wallitsch collected 17 assists, 13 digs and three service aces.
 
Eastern earns the MAC Freedom automatic qualifier (AQ) to the NCAA Division III Championship. The field will be announced on Monday, Nov. 9 at 11 a.m. at www.NCAA.com.
