Albright’s Codi Herr and Misericordia’s Dani Blass earned NCAA ‘B’ cut times

YORK, Pa. (Men’s and Women’s Swimming) –
The third day of the 2015 Middle Atlantic Conference Swimming Championship concluded on Saturday at the Graham Aquatic Center. Teams made their move in the standings heading into the final day tomorrow.

Misericordia’s Dani Blass set two MAC Championship records, and also claimed a NCAA provisional time. Albright’s Codi Herr also earned an NCAA provisional time.

A total of two NCAA provisional times were scored, three MAC Championship records fell and there were two repeat champions from the 2014 championship.

WOMEN’S 200 FREESTYLE RELAY
Messiah won the women’s 200-yard freestyle relay in a MAC Championship record time of 1:37.98. The previous record was held by Albright since 2005 (1:38.90). The Falcons swam in the following order: Laura Penwell (Sr.), Emily Reale (So.), Katie Wingert (Fr.) and Tara Freeman (So.)

Misericordia finished in second in a time of 1:38.73, which also broke the original record. Widener finished third in a time of 1:40.44.

MEN’S 200 FREESTYLE RELAY
Widener won the men’s 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:24.36. The Pride swam in the following order: Ian Gaynor (So.), Tom Platt (Fr.), Jeffrey Hicks (So.) and Michael Grajek (So.).

Hood finished in second place in a time of 1:25.69, and Misericordia finished in third with a time of 1:26.75.

WOMEN’S 400 IM
Misericordia’s Dani Blass (Jr.) win the women’s 400 IM in a MAC Championship record time of 4:34.90. Her time was good enough for an NCAA provisional time. The previous record was held by Lauren Kenworth of Drew (4:36.71) since 1997. Hood’s Lauren Fogarty (Jr.) finished second in a time of 4:38.19. Fogarty won the 2014 title and was the top seed in the final. Albright’s Amanda Osterlind finished third in a time of 4:39.80.

MEN’S 400 IM
Messiah’s Dakota Schmalz (Fr.) won the men’s 400-yard IM in a time of 4:10.95. Hood’s Chris Gardner (So.) finished second in a time of 4:14.17, and Arcadia’s Eric Lam (So.) finished third in a time of 4:15.39. Lam won the event in 2014.

WOMEN’S 100 BUTTERFLY
Albright’s Codi Herr won the women’s 100-yard butterfly in a time of 57.02 seconds. Her time was good enough for an NCAA provisional time. Messiah’s Tara Freeman (So.) finished in a time of 58.12 seconds for second, and King’s Macawley Brown took third in a time of 58.20 seconds.

MEN’S 100 BUTTERFLY
Lycoming’s Dan Woods (Sr.) repeated as the men’s 100-yard butterfly champion with a time of 50.83 seconds. Hood’s Alex Bodine took second-place with a time of 51.81 seconds, and Albright’s Alex Bauer finished in third-place in a time of 51.85 seconds.

WOMEN’S 200 FREESTYLE
Messiah’s Katie Wingert (Fr.) won the women’s 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:55.45. Her time was .29 seconds off the championship record. Widener’s Melaney Heald finished in second in a time of 1:57.28, and Hood’s Ashley Griffin took third in a time of 1:58.37.

MEN’S 200 FREESTYLE
Widener’s Ian Gaynor (So.) repeated as the men’s 200-yard freestyle champion with a time of 1:42.91. Albright’s Rick Sutton (Sr.) took second place in a time of 1:43.86, and Widener’s Michael Grajek finished in third in a time of 1:44.67.

WOMEN’S 100 BREASTSTROKE
Misericordia’s Dani Blass (Jr.) won the women’s 100-yard breaststroke in a MAC Championship record time of 1:05.67—just shy of an NCAA provisional cut (1:05.49). Widener’s Erin Neugebauer took second in a time of 1:07.82, and Messiah’s Emily Reale was third in a time of 1:08.15

MEN’S 100 BREASTSTROKE
Albright’s Ken Richardson (So.) won the men’s 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 58.02 seconds. Richardson broke the MAC Championship record in the prelims with a time of 57.88 seconds. Misericordia’s Thomas Scott (So.) took second place with a time of 58.94 seconds, and teammate John Brady (Fr.) took third in a time of 59.13 seconds.

WOMEN’S 100 BACKSTROKE
Arcadia’s Whitney Boeckel (Sr.) won the women’s 100-yard backstroke in a time of 59.50 seconds. Misericorida’s Marissa Gombosi (Fr.) took second in a time of 1:00.26, and Albright’s Kaitlyn Huizing (Sr.) finished third in a time of 1:00.59.

MEN’S 100 BACKSTROKE
Hood’s Alex Bodine won the men’s 100-yard backstroke in a time of 52.12 seconds. Misericordia’s Brad Thomas finished second in a time of 52. 18 seconds, and Hood’ Chris Gardner took third in a time of 52.51 seconds.
