WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (Women’s Tennis) – The 2016 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Women’s Tennis Individual Championship is set for this weekend, Oct. 15-16. King’s College and Wilkes University will host this year’s championship at Kirby Park and Wilkes University courts in Wilkes-Barre.
Action is set to get underway on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 9 a.m. However, if there is a weather concern for the weekend in Wilkes-Barre, action could begin on Friday, Oct. 14. Any schedule changes will be announced Thursday evening after the coaches’ pre-championship meeting around 8 p.m. (

Admission to the 2016 MAC Women’s Tennis Individual Championship is free and parking is available in the lot adjacent to the Ralston Field Complex. Long-sleeved graphite-gray moisture wick t-shirts with the championship logo will be for sale on site for $18 while supplies last. Programs will be free at the site of competition. Check out the

The Wilkes Colonels swept the singles and doubles flights a year ago at the 2015 MAC Women’s Tennis Individual Championship. The Colonels return six of their seven individual champions, including Kendra Croker, Jordan Vasarkovy, Taylor Hoffmann, Madison Salmon, Julia Baranov and Brittany Stanton. Wilkes also returns two of its four doubles champions, and half of the other two doubles championship teams return as well.
Seeding and brackets for this year’s tournament will be posted on the championship central page after the coaches’ pre-championship meeting around 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 13.
The individual tournament has an additional team competing this year, as DeSales University’s tennis program is back for its first season since being dropped as a varsity sport after the 2009-10 season. A total of 15 institutions, including Albright, Alvernia, Arcadia, Delaware Valley, DeSales, Eastern, FDU-Florham, Hood, King’s Lebanon Valley, Lycoming, Messiah, Misericordia, Stevenson and Wilkes will be competing at this year’s championship.
Wilkes leads the conference with 37 all-time singles champions and 22 all-time doubles champions at the conference individual championship.
