Alvernia’s Emily Gilbert, LVC’s Megan Kimmel tied atop standings through first day

HERSHEY, Pa. (Women’s Golf) – The first day of the 2016 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Women’s Golf Championships concluded Saturday at the Hershey East course at the Hershey Country Club. The Stevenson Mustangs shot a team score of 379 (+95) to lead the Lebanon Valley Dutchmen (385) by six strokes heading to the final round.
Alvernia’s Emily Gilbert and Lebanon Valley’s Megan Kimmel both finished the day with a round of 87 (+16). Stevenon’s Emily Haas currently ranks third with a 90 (+16). A total of four women are tied for fourth place after day one with a round of 91 (+20), including Lycoming’s Hailey Fricke, Stevenson’s Alicia Greene and Morgan Wirtz, and Manhattanville’s Kendyl Nethercott. Eastern’s Sofia Frants sit eighth with a 92 (+21), and Manhattanville’s Gabriela Estevez and Lebanon Valley’s Kaitlyn Kennedy are tied for ninth with a round of 93 (+22).
Stevenson leads the team leaderboard with a 379 (+95) for a six-stroke lead over second-place Lebanon Valley (385). Eastern sits five-strokes back from LVC and 11 strokes behind the Mustangs for third with a 390. FDU-Florham (418) and Alvernia (419) round out the top-5, respectively. Albright (446), Arcadia (458) and Misericordia (576) rounded out the scoring teams. Delaware Valley, Lycoming and Manhattanville combine for five golfers competing just as individuals.
Final round tee times begin Monday at 8 a.m. This is the first year since the inaugural championship in 2011, that the women’s golf championship has two rounds.
