2016 Schedule
ANNVILLE, Pa. (Women’s Soccer) – The Misericordia Cougars were selected as the favorite in the 2016 conference preseason poll conducted among the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) women’s soccer coaches. The Cougars received six first-place votes for 48 points.
In 2015, Misericordia earned the top seed in the conference tournament but failed to make the championship match for the first time in five years. The Cougars were upset by Wilkes in penalty kicks in the conference semifinal round. Prior to 2015, Misericordia won three-straight conference titles and were runner-ups in 2011. The Cougars still earned a spot in the NCAA Division III Championship in 2015, but fell in the first round to Roger Williams. Misericordia concluded the season with a 15-4-2 (7-0-0 MAC Freedom) overall record.
DeSales collected two first-place votes for 44 points to rank second. The 2015 conference champions finished second in the conference a season ago before defeating Wilkes in the conference title game for their first MAC Freedom title in women’s soccer. The Bulldogs earned a spot in the NCAA Division III Championship, but fell to Denison in the opening round. DeSales concluded the season with a 14-6 (6-1 MAC Freedom) overall record.
Wilkes received 36 points and King’s collected 28 points to rank third and fourth. The Monarchs earned the third-seed in last year’s conference tournament, while the Colonels earned the fourth seed. Wilkes upset Misericordia to make its first conference title match since winning it all in 2005.
Eastern collected 27 points to round out the top-five. The rest of the poll, in respective order, included Delaware Valley (16 points), FDU-Florham (15 points) and Manhattanville (10 points).
