Albright Captures 11th MAC Men's Swimming Title

The Lions totaled 615 points and 10 medals

CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL

YORK, Pa. (Men’s Swimming) –
The Albright Lions collected their 11th Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Men’s Swimming title on Sunday. The Lions recorded 615 points and 10 medals.
 
Arcadia finished in second with 550.5 points and 15 medals, while Messiah took third with 449.5 points and 12 medals. Widener finished in fourth with 374 points and six medals. Misericordia took fifth with 332 points and three medals.
 
Widener Aaron Green was named the 2018 David B. Eavenson Award winner as the MAC Men’s Swimmer of the Year after scoring 60 individual points. It is his second-straight conference swimmer of the year honor.
 
Albright freshman Bryce Schaffer was named the 2018 MAC Men’s Swimming Rookie of the Year after recording 57 individual points.
 
King’s Matt Easterday was named the 2018 MAC Men’s Swimming Coach of the Year.
 
1,650-YARD FREESTYLE
Arcadia’s Grant Fisher won gold with an NCAA Division III ‘B’ cut time of 16.15.50. Albright’s Teag Culver took silver with a time of 16.25.22, and Hood’s Max Riedel won bronze with a time of 16:33.12.
 
200-YARD BACKSTROKE
Misericordia’s Joe Grzech won gold for the second-straight year (third-time in the last four years) with a time of 1:53.17. Albright’s Bryce Schaffer took silver with a time of 1:54.05, and Arcadia’s Michael Melissen won bronze with a time of 1:55.70.

100-YARD FREESTYLE
Widener’s Aaron Green won gold for a second-straight season in the event. Green set a new MAC Championship record and swam an NCAA Division III B cut with a time of 45.12 seconds. The previous championship record was his own at 45.33 seconds set in 2017. FDU-Florham’s Bohdan Semak took silver with a time of 46.66 seconds, and Messiah’s Drew Wolfe took bronze with a time of 46.77 seconds.
 
200-YARD BREASTSTROKE
Arcadia’s Travis Dalton won gold with a new MAC Championship and overall MAC record time of 2:04.87. He just missed the NCAA Division III B cut time (2:04.80). The previous record was set in 2017 by Albright’s Tyler Chamberlin (2:05.37). Arcadia’s Mark Preedy took silver with a time of 2:07.41, and Messiah’s Nolan McArdle won bronze with a time of 2:07.71.
 
200-YARD BUTTERFLY
Albright’s Bryce Schaffer won gold with a new MAC Championship and overall MAC record time of 1:51.22. The previous record was set in 2016 by Arcadia’s Timothy Graham (1:53.54). Lebanon Valley’s Ian Lloyd took silver with a time of 1:52.94, which also beat the previous record time. Arcadia’s Jake Schellinger took bronze with a time of 1:59.00.
 
400-YARD FREESTYLE RELAY
Widener’s Aaron Green, Paolo Cortez, Timmy Dando and Martin Bohdan won gold with a time of 3:08.11. Green led off and rebroke his own MAC Championship 100 freestyle time with a new record time of 44.81 seconds. That time also earn him and NCAA Division III ‘B’ cut time. Arcadia took silver with a time of 3:09.70, and Messiah took bronze with a time of 3:10.79.
