CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL
YORK, Pa. (Women’s Swimming) – The Messiah Falcons won their fifth-straight Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) women’s swimming title. The Falcons collected 619.5 points with 10 gold medals and three silver medals.
Widener finished second with 463.5 points and 11 total medals. Arcadia finished third with 450 points and six medals. Albright finished fourth with 348.5 points and five medals, and Misericordia took fifth with 319.5 points and two medals.
Messiah senior Katie Wingert was named the 2018 David B. Eavenson Award as the MAC Women’s Swimmer of the Year after recording 60 individual points. It is her second-straight conference swimmer of the year honors.
Messiah freshman Kaylee Hollenbach was named the 2018 MAC Women’s Swimming Rookie of the Year after recording 57 individual points.
Messiah’s Katie McComb was named the 2018 MAC Women’s Swimming Coach of the Year in her first year with the program.
1,650-YARD FREESTYLE
Arcadia’s Megan Hupp won her second-straight gold in the 1,650 freestyle with a time of 17:40.35. The Knights’ Alyssa D’Esposito took silver with a time of 17:50.65, and Widener’s Nikki Mowry won bronze with a time of 17:52.05.
200-YARD BACKSTROKE
Messiah’s Kaylee Hollenbach won gold with an NCAA Division III ‘B’ cut time of 2:03.53. Lycoming’s McKenna Zeller took silver with a time of 2:06.65, and Stevenson’s Melanie Milam took bronze with a time of 2:06.97.
100-YARD FREESTYLE
Messiah’ Katie Wingert won her third-straight gold in the 100-yard freestyle. Wingert won this year with a new MAC Championship and overall MAC record time of 50.65 seconds. Her time is also an NCAA Division III ‘B’ cut time. She broke her own records of 51.36 (Championship) and 51.21 (Overall MAC) seconds. Messiah’s Cassie Cotton took silver with a time of 51.37 seconds, also an NCAA Division III ‘B’ cut time. Widener’s Christine Kunzler took bronze with a time of 53.05 seconds.
200-YARD BREASTSTROKE
Misericordia’s Grace Nikolski and King’s Kirsten Siwy touched the wall at the same time to tie for the gold medal. They swam a time of 2:24.31. Nikolski wins her second-straight gold in the event. Stevenson’s Juli Burnett took bronze with a time of 2:29.51. No silver was given in this event.
200-YARD BUTTERFLY
Albright’s Ashlyn Chermol won gold with a time of 2:07.90 for her second-straight win in the event. Widener’s Jill Bujanowski took silver with a time of 2:09.90, and Stevenson’s Izzy Ramsland took bronze with a time of 2:12.73.
400-YARD FREESTYLE RELAY
Messiah’s Cassie Cotton, Brittany Pond, Kaylee Hollenbach and Katie Winger won gold with a new MAC Championship and overall MAC record time of 3:29.80. The time was also good enough for an NCAA Division III ‘B’ cut time. The original record set by Messiah in 2016 was 3:31.43. Widener won silver with a time of 3:35.31, and Albright took bronze with a time of 3:39.14.
