Student Leadership + Commitment + Determination, A Winning Formula for "S.A.A.C."Cess


Student Program:
This 45 minute program will help student-athlete representatives to:

define their own version of leadership examine their own strengths and weaknesses in the area assist them in making a plan to impact their SAAC using appropriate strategies for them.
The format for this interactive program will include large group discussion, self-reflection and goal setting and activity participation.

Advisor's Program:
This 45 minute program is designed to encourage SAAC advisors to: examine issues dealing with student-athlete welfare introduce potential avenues for providing life skills programming on a limited budget evaluate their current roles in the SAAC and consider possible changes if necessary. The format for this program will include a short power point presentation followed by a facilitated discussion of the issues.

Speaker's Bio:
Julie Muller is the Assistant Athletics Director for Student-athlete Services at Stony Brook University on Long Island. Her primary responsibilities are in the areas of life skills development and student-athlete welfare issues. A member of the Seawolves staff since November of 2000, Julie has been responsible for the development of the CHAMPS Program for the newly transitioned Division I AA institution.

In addition to leading educational and informational programs for the student-athletes at Stony Brook, Julie has presented on the topic of Women in Sport for the Women's Leadership Symposium at Stony Brook and An Examination of Title IX for a professional staff retreat in Wroxton, England. She was also selected as a facilitator for the 2001 NCAA CHAMPS Life Skills Continuing Education Program in Orlando, Florida.

Before joining Stony Brook's staff, Julie is a familiar face at one of the Middle Atlantic States Conference Schools, Farleigh Dickinson University, where she was Associate Athletics Director/ Senior Woman Administrator and Head Field Hockey Coach. Julie played field hockey and earned both her BS in Recreation and her MA in Industrial Psychology from F.D.U. She may have even taken on the role of a seawolf but just ask anyone, she's a devil at heart!
